SENSORS USE-CASE IN MANUFACTURING
The collection of data on the production environment is very important for the food industry because food production has its own laws and regulations.
The following user-case is based on our customer needs who is producing high-quality dairy products.
THE GOAL
EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT
Previously, this food industry received data on temperature and humidity from wall thermostats. In order for the data to reach the documentation, an extra employee was used who went around the production hall and wrote down the data by hand.
Firstly, this solution was not reliable and additional staff were needed. Secondly, defects or damaged products could not be traced early enough, due to a deficiency in the quality assurance process.
THE COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
To solve this problem our team at GlobalReader did a quick brainstorming. The client's requests for smarter technology were incorporated into GlobalReader's existing products. This solution works in exactly the same way as the core product of GlobalReader's - software and hardware solution.
The hardware - smart sensor transmits temperature and humidity data to the GlobalReader software. The software presents the real-time situation on the shop floor visually to the responsible employee.

THE COST
PROJECT INPUT
Together with dairy and cheese production they process ca. 190 tons of raw milk per day and use it to make ca. 3500 tons of products in 16 product segments. Their turnover is ~45 million euros.
PRICE
For a project this size - with 25 temperature and humidity monitoring sensors, the monthly cost was β¬ 1,000. The previous solution was 50% more expensive, taking into account the use of extra labor, scrap and food waste.
Today's solution gives the client more accurate information, furthermore saves time and money. GlobalReader solution visualises all the data so no need to spend time analysing the data.
WOOD INDUSTRY
In the wood industry, the measurement of temperature and humidity in the drying process and in warehouses is very important. Wood must be dried before using it in furniture, building material, structural elements or in construction for example. The optimum moisture content for wood for any given purpose is that at which subsequent variations in moisture content are minimised, reducing dimensional changes as much as possible when the wood is put to use.
PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
When pharmaceutical products are exposed to incorrect temperatures, the effects of decomposition can occur and diminish the effects intended from the products. It is essential that the warehouse and manufacturing process is constantly monitored to ensure that the correct temperature is maintained at all times.
